Academic Seminar 2024

An academic seminar is being held for the first time at our annual festival. Join us for a panel discussion exploring the Status of Islamic Arts In America. The program, which brings together the top academics for a discussion on Islamic art, is brought to you in collaboration with the University of Houston’s Katherine G. McGovern College of the Arts.

Professor Rex Koontz, Director of the School of Arts, will present his work on the influence of Islamic art in 16th-century Mexican churches. Professor Farshid Emami from Rice University will present a paper on Islamic arts and multicultural architecture in medieval Europe. Seminar participants will learn about the coexistence of cultures in art and architecture from a historical perspective.
